Social Justice

 The St. Therese Social Justice Ministry seeks to empower faithful followers of God to thirst for social justice and assists in providing opportunities to integrate faith with social action and service, especially to the poor.

This Ministry is composed of four arms that strive to embody the principles of Catholic Social Teaching:

  • St. Vincent de Paul
  • Time of Need
  • Homebound
  • Community Outread

Each reaches out to both our parish community and the larger community of Kenosha.  

In General What Is The Scope Of The Social Justice Ministries?

  • Discover the needs of the individuals or groups
  • Provide relief both financial or spiritual
  • Network with parish and community organizations
  • Educate parishioners regarding the importance of Social Justice in our Catholic Faith.

What Can The Social Justice Ministries Be Called Upon To Do?

 St. Vincent de Paul Ministers:

  • Visit those requesting funds or other items to develop a personal relationship and better understanding of their needs.
  • Provide financial assistance possibly for various needs: rent, prescriptions, or other bills.
  • Provide possibly St. Vincent de Paul Store vouchers
  • Refer people to community resources that may be of assistance to them

            MAY BE ABLE TO PROVIDE, PLEASE CALL THE PARISH

Time of Need Ministers:

  • Address temporary needs of parishioners who request assistance through referral or self-request.  Confidentiality is strictly maintained.
  • Provide on-going support with meals, cards, phone calls for parishioners or families confronted by unexpected illness, injury, unemployment, prolonged hospitalization, arrival of a new infant or other life-changing events.
  • Send cards to those who are ill or bereaved.
  • Other possibilities depending upon need and availability of assistance:  clean, shop, watch children or pets, perform errands, provide transportation for those who need treatment.

 SOCIAL JUSTICE MINISTRY…………..."Working Together For The Good Of All"

Homebound Ministers:

  • Bring Communion to persons unable to attend Mass due to age or illness
  • Provide transportation to Mass on weekends or daily, if desired
  • Offer companion visits to check-in or spend time with them at their home
  • Flexible schedules are available to meet individual needs

Community Outreach Ministers:

  • Work with local Kenosha organizations that are involved in various social justice and human concerns issues
  • Gather information about existing Kenosha area resources/organizations in order to provide St. Therese Parish with opportunities to become involved with these organizations
  • Organize a monthly donation drive for the parish to support
  • Facilitate the Christmas Giving Tree
  • Organize a "Spring Clean-Up" and Fall Yard-Work Day

Examples of organizations we work with:

                        *  The Shalom Center including the INNS Program

                        *  CareNet & Women's Horizons Center for unexpected

                           pregnancies and right to life concerns

                        *  Urban Outreach

                        *  Kenosha County Jail

                        *  Kenosha Homeless Shelter

           Our Social Justice Ministries are dedicated to doing their best to meet the needs of our parishioners and our neighbors in our community.

             New members are always welcome to join in the work of bringing comfort and help through our Social Justice ministries.  Even if you can give only the smallest amount of time, there is someone in our community who is waiting for you.  Won't you join with us and reach out to the poorest, the most needy, and the helpless of God's children?  Call the Parish Office to find out what you can do.
